Hello there,
My name is Lissy Markmiller. I am an Illustrator, based in Bavaria, Germany.
My debut as a picture book illustrator is Cornelius will fliegen (Cornelius wants to fly), written by Caro Docar, published on 11 February 2026 by Edition Nilpferd, part of the Austrian publishing house G&G Verlag.
I am particularly interested in little ones (animal or human) who perceive the world differently, defy expectations and turn out to be surprisingly strong-willed.
I gravitate towards characters, who are unique in their thinking, delicate and strong, cute but on a mission. Through character design, mark making, textures, lighting, colour palettes, perspective, pacing and the interplay between text and image I want to touch kids and grown-ups on a deep level and encourage them to discover the enchanting and unexpected.
My book illustrations are done in mixed media (coloured pencils, watercolour, crayons) on hot pressed watercolour paper with digital finishing touches in Adobe Photoshop.
I graduated with honours in Communication-Design from the Universitiy Of Applied Sciences Munich, Germany in 2001.
My vector illustrations in the field of web and app design help to humanize technical interfaces and make complex ideas. accessible.
I have worked in e-learning, TV channels, advertising,
web and app design and in the public sector/education.
